Some of the most noteworthy statistics of the day.

Equestrian – Jumping
- 61-year-old Ian Millar (CAN) won a Silver medal in the Jumping Team event to become the seventh oldest medal winner in Olympic history. It was Millar’s first medal in his record equaling ninth Olympic Games.

Cycling – Track
- Bradley Wiggins (GBR) was one of the riders to win the Team Pursuit for Great Britain. With this Gold medal, he equaled the Olympic record of total medals won (six) in Cycling –Track set 104 years ago.

Athletics
- Brimin Kiprop Kipruto (KEN) gave Kenya its seventh successive Olympic Gold medal in the Men’s 3000m Steeplechase, making it one of the longest domination streaks in the history of Track events at the Olympic Games.
- Pamela Jelimo (KEN) became the first female Gold medal winner for Kenya by winning the Women’s 8000m. Male compatriots had previously accounted for 18 Gold medals.
- Stephanie Brown Trafton (USA) became the first USA Gold medalist in the Women’s Discus Throw since 1932.

Table Tennis
- China won their second Table Tennis Gold medal by winning the Men’s Team event. China are now halfway to taking all Table Tennis Gold medals for the first since the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Handball
- Spain defeated Brazil 36-35 in Group A in the Men’s Handball at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The total score of 71 goals is a record for an Olympic Men’s Handball match in regular time.
