Some of the most noteworthy statistics of the day.

Swimming
- Michael Phelps (USA) won his eighth Gold medal at Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, when the USA claimed the Men’s 4x100m Medly Relay. By doing so, he broke the record for the most Golds at a single Olympic Games, set by Mark Spitz (USA) at Munich 1972.
- Britta Steffen (GER) added the Women’s 50m Freestyle Gold medal to her 100m Freestyle triumph to become the third female swimmer and the first since Inge de Bruijn (NED) in 2000 to complete the sprint double at the Olympic Games.

Badminton
- Lin Dan (CHN) became the first reigning world champion to be crowned Olympic champion in the Men’s singles.

Diving
- Guo Jingjing (CHN) won the Women’s 3m Springboard competition to win her fourth career Olympic Gold medal and her sixth in total, to become the most successful diver at the Olympics.

Athletics
- Jamaican women completed the first-ever clean sweep in the Women’s 100m, marking only the sixth clean sweep in Olympic Games Women’s Athletics.
- It was the first time a 100m event had been swept at an Olympic Games level since the USA’s men won all medals in 1912.
