Athleticcs
- Usian Bolt (JAM) won the Gold medal in the Men’s 100m, improving his own world record to 9.69 sec. It is the fifth time the record in this event has been broken in the Olympic Games.
Swimming
- Rebecca Adlington (GBR) set a world record of 8:14.10 to claim the Gold medal in the Women’s 800m Freestyle on Saturday, breaking the oldest world record in Swimming. It stood for almost 19 years.
Rowing
- Georgeta Andrunache (ROU) won the Rowing Women’s Pair to claim her fifth Olympic Gold medal, equaling the record for Rowing set by Elisabeta Lipa (ROU) and Steve Redgrave (GBR).
Cycling Track
- Rebecca Romero (GBR) is the second woman to win summer Olympic medals in fundamentally different sports. At Athens 2004, Romero won Silver in Rowing (Quadruple Sculls).
- Roswitha Krause (GDR) is the only other woman to have won Olympic medals in two fundamentally different sports, Handball (Silver 1976 and Bronze 1980) and Swimming (Silver 1968).
Fencing
- Giovanna Trillini (ITA) became the first female fencer to win eight Olympic medals when she won the bronze medal in the Women’s Team Foil.
