Some of the most noteworthy statistics of the day

Swimming
- Liu Zige (CHN) and Jiao Liuyang (CHN) completed a one-two win for China in the Women’s 200m Butterfly for the second time in Olympic Swimming. The first was in Barcelona 1992, when Yang Wenyi (CHN) took Gold and Silver in the 50m Freestyle.
- Australia won the Gold medal while setting a world record of 7min 44.31 sec in the Women’s 4x200m Freestyle. They shaved 5.78 seconds off the previous world best time – by far the biggest improvement ever of this record.


Judo
- Tuvshinbayar Naidan won Mongolia’s first Olympic Gold medal, taking Gold in the Men’s -100 kg Judo. Before Thursday, Mongolia had won six Silver and 10 Bronze medals at the Olympics, the most by any NOC never to win Gold.


Archery
- Zhang Juanjuan (CHN) claimed Gold in the Archery Women’s Individual event, becoming the first non-Korean Gold medal winner in the event since 1984.
