Athletics
- Usain Bolt (JAM) completed a rare sprint double by winning the Men’s 200m days after winning the Men’s 100m. He is the first athlete to do so since Carl Lewis (USA) won both events in 1984, and the ninth in total.
- Bolt set a world record with a time of 19.30, besting Michael Johnson’s (USA) time of 19.32, which dates back to Atlanta 1996.
- His winning margin (0.66) marked the biggest winning margin ever in a Men’s 200m final at the Olympics.
- The previous biggest winning margin was recorded in 1900 when Walter Tewksbury (USA) beat Norman Pritchard (GBR) by six tenths of a second.


Synchronized Swimming
- Anastasia Davydova (RUS) and Anastasia Ermakova (RUS) won the Gold medal in the Duet Free Routine event in Synchronised Swimming at the Beijing Olympic Games.
- It was the fifth Gold medal for Russia in Synchronised Swimming, equaling the record set by the USA.
- Davydova (RUS) and Ermakova (RUS) both won their third career Olympic Gold medal, equaling the record set by their countrywomen Maria Kiseleva (RUS) and Olga Bursnikina (RUS).
