Special Stamps: Yandang Mountain

In September 2002, the State Postal Bureau issued a set of four special stamps depicting Yandang Mountain scenery.

Yandang (Chinese for "where wild geese frolic") Mountain in southeastern Zhejiang Province is famous for its splendid peaks, caves and waterfalls. Its summit, Baigangjian, is over 1,000 meters above sea level. According to traditional belief, there was once a pool here where wild geese would nest in autumn.

There are over 380 scenic sites on the mountain, three of the most famous being Ling Peak, Ling Crag, and Dalongqiu Waterfall.

Stamp 1 shows the Xiansheng entrance to the north of the scenic area, where two vertical rocks reach up to the sky, forming magnificent stone portals.

Stamp 2 pictures the famous 190-meter drop Dalongqiu Waterfall. The scenery here, framed in sky, reflects the changes of season.

Stamp 3 is of Beidou Cave in the Ling Peak Scenic Area. The cave is spacious and light, and inside it are two natural springs perfect for making tea. Over the centuries famous personages have left their inscriptions on the cave walls.

Stamp 4 shows Guanyin Peak. This is on the most spectacular side of Yandang Mountain peak where, on a clear day, one can take in a panoramic view of Wenzhou City.
