2006 Spring Festival Transportation

The 2006 Spring Festival transportation rush kicked off on January 14, and will come to an end on February 22. Chinese transportation departments are usually stretched to their limits at this time of the year as they cater for the long-held tradition of the Spring Festival family reunion. It is estimated that 2.42 billion person-times will travel back and forth on various modes of transport during this year’s Spring Festival rush, an increase of 3.1 percent over the corresponding period in 2005. Railway passengers will reach 144 million person-times, an increase of 3 percent over the previous year, highway transportation volume will be over 1.8 billion person-times, and aviation transportation will reach 15 million person-times, an increase of 10 percent over 2005.
