Beautiful Life

By staff reporter DONG NING

Wawa is a makeup artist working in the wonderful world of fashion. She can repaint a model’s face faster than a Formula 1 team can change four wheels in a pit stop.

Originally from Harbin, Wawa has been living in Beijing for five years. She showed a talent for fashion from an early age and delighted in daubing her face with makeup, parading around in he mother’s dresses and high heels when she was out. When Wawa grew up, she left the coziness of home to make her life and find her dreams in the capital city.

“If I’m doing what I like to do, then I am happy,” said Wawa.

Her profession, in most people’s eyes, is one of wonder, but it’s actually very demanding. Every day, she zips around from one location to the next, putting makeup on different models. Sometimes, during a live fashion show, a stream of 20 models comes to her, one after the other, to have their faces made up for the show. She often has to skip lunch to keep pace with this seemingly endless stream of beautification. Wawa’s skill and hard work ethic have earned her a good reputation among Beijing fashion circles.

When she first left home, Wawa went to Beijing Film Academy to learn her trade. Then she found a position in a local fashion company. Now, she teaches her own students, and often recounts to them her early days, when she arrived in Beijing with only her courage and determination for company.

Although he hectic career keeps her very busy, Wawa always sure to take a few moments out to enjoy some peace and quiet, go shopping for clothes, or enjoy a bite to eat with good friends.
