Horoscopes and Romances a Hit with Primary and Middle School Students

In certain Chinese cities, horoscope books, romances and comic versions of classics have become bestsellers by virtue of their attraction for primary and middle school students. The sales volume of such books at the Anhui Provincial Book City ranges from a few to several dozen copies per day. Of the children that come daily to browse, some stand for hours reading a book until it is finished.

The popularity of this trivia reading has aroused concern in pedagogical circles that it will foster unrealistic expectations of life. Parents are strongly advised to curtail these reading habits and give their offspring appropriate guidance.
