Obese Pay Higher Insurance Premiums

An obese person seeking to take out health insurance pays a 20 percent higher insurance premium than their thin counterpart, according to a new rule stipulated by the Ping’an Life Insurance Company Changsha Branch. There are certain people who see this as discrimination against people who are overweight, and are threatening to sue the company.

One of the insurance company’s assessors argues that obese people are more likely to fall ill, which increases insurance risks.
