Opposition to Height Restrictions

Some universities have started to apply height restrictions to applications for popular majors. The Guangdong-based South China University of Technology put into effect a height requirement for Scientific and Technological English and Japanese, which Jinan University in the same province applied to admissions for Jornalism, Law and Tourism Management.

The explanation offered by these universities is that students of shorter stature often encounter difficulties when seeking jobs. Opponents to the measures hold that height discrimination contradicts university social policy and constitutes discrimination.
