Traditional Etiquette Taught in University

Traditional weddings are popular among Beijing's younger couples.

Tsinghua University Professor of History Peng Lin teaches an etiquette course to cure what he sees as the disappearance of traditional etiquette. The optional course currently has a full registration of 150 students. "Nowadays it seems that we are far away from these ancient traditions," says one student.

A South Korean student Jeon Ae Lyong says that because she grew up with Korean social decorum, she feels unaccustomed to that in China. "Many forms of etiquette were introduced to Korea from China," she says. "I had hoped to learn it firsthand, but before I came to China someone told me that basic traditional etiquette is not observed."
