China's Per Capita GDP Exceeds US $1,000


China's US $1,000 per capita GDP marks a new stage in its economic development.

China's State Statistics Bureau reports that the country's 2003 Gross Domestic Product topped US $1.4 trillion, averaging US $1,090 per capita and breaking the $1,000 mark for the first time.

This marks a new stage of development for the Chinese economy and indicates a change in social consumption patterns. Auto, computer and high-grade electrical appliances are entering homes at a faster pace and the demand for housing improvement continues to increase
