Caesarean Births on the Increase

China's rate of births by Caesarean section is growing.  In some cities it stands at 50 percent or more, and certain hospitals use this method in 70 percent of deliveries.

Experts attribute this increase to later child-bearing; larger fetuses due to better nutrition; and to doctors' preference for the simpler and safer Caesarean births.

There are also women that choose to have a caesarean section so that their child maybe born on an auspicious day, and in the belief their figures will change less.
