Chinese scientist Wang Bin wins the 2003 Computerworld Honors 21st century Achievement Award.

Chinese Scientists Win First IT "Oscar"

In June the Computerworld Honors Program, known as Oscar of the IT industry, awarded its 21st-Century Achievement Award for Science to the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. 

According to the program's panel of judges, the IAP's large-scale climate model, with its particular emphasis on El Nino cycles and Asian monsoons, will help China mitigate its annual 60-180 billion yuan economic losses caused by climate changes and natural disasters.
