Primary and Middle Schools Make Huge Profits

A market research company in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province recently found that among China's 10 most profitable trades are primary and middle schools. Some schools use public resources to offer after-class curricula, and set up new schools with other units to collect more social funds. Well-known schools charge parents hefty tuition fees.

The Jiangsu provincial government carried out an investigation into 2,851 primary schools and 1,547 middle schools, and found an accumulated amount of 16.47 million yuan in improper charges.

Some scholars argue that vocational school and other education organizations can treat education as an industry, but that public primary and middle schools should be prohibited from using national educational resources to make profits.
