Benz Comes to Beijing

Daimler Chrysler and Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. have signed a framework agreement whereby Daimler Chrysler uses the Beijing Jeep Corporation Ltd. facilities to produce C-Class and E-Class Mercedes-Benz cars. Within a few years of start-up, its annual output is expected to reach 25,000. Daimler Chrysler also uses Beijing Automotive's Beiqi Futian Automobile Co. middle-sized and heavy-duty trucks manufacturing facilities to produce commercial cars. Estimated investment is 1 billion euro (about 9 billion RMB). Engines and other parts and accessories will be manufactured concurrently.
