Yunnan Holds Public Examinations to Select Officials

In order to prevent corruption within the human resources sector, Yunnan Province is to hold public examinations to select from candidates for official posts at departmental and prefecture level. A total of 3,927 people have registered for the examination that will fill 1,500 posts. Previously the list of reserve officials was decided by members of senior government ranks, and even those listed were unaware that they were being considered. A large-scale examination such as this is rare in China.
