The 65th time-honored Steinway Children & Youth Piano Competition was recently held in Beijing, and also Asia, for the first time. Out of the 400 participants selected from throughout China, 49 went on to compete in the finals. With the aim of popularizing piano education, as well as bringing piano fever to Beijing -- and even the whole of China, to a climax, the competition sponsor hosted a series of other activities, including a concerto concert featuring Chen Sa and the China Philharmonic Orchestra. Chen Sa won fourth place in the 14th Chopin International Piano Competition. Arie Vardi, Chen's teacher, world famous educator and music master, performed a piano solo concert for the purposes of analyzing and elucidating Chopin's Polonaise.
