Public Libraries Should Have CT

A number of years ago, when my friend Margaret Stanley died, China Today published an article about her. Her love and concern for China, and my deep love for your great country, was one of our common bonds.

I grew up in Liaocheng, not far from where I now live. I returned about a year ago to live in a Chinese village. The villagers here are warm hearted, and I am very happy. The only thing I miss is conversation with intellectuals. The Liaocheng International Peace Hospital is preparing a small two-room apartment for me, and I hope to hold intellectual discussions there two nights a week, for those who want to use their English.

I strongly feel that every public library in the USA should subscribe to China Today magazine. An all-out effort should be made to accomplish this. Perhaps a special two-year subscription rate could be offered. A letter to all public libraries should stress the importance of understanding and peace building.

What I Find More Interesting

Stamps are always interesting and informative, and food is also a primary interest. It was very disappointing, therefore, to see that in the "Special Dish" page there was no recipe, only an advertisement for a restaurant. Roast Peking Duck is too exacting a dish for most home kitchens, but you might still tell us how it is prepared and served, and what to serve with it.

In future recipes, I suggest you avoid those that require deep-frying. Very few American homes are equipped for this kind of cooking.

The January issue article, "China Draft Bank Museum" is an example of the kind of article that is useful in the classroom. It is also an example of how a simple idea or device can effectively expand a local trade into one carried on nationwide.

More about Chinese History

I have been a subscriber to China Today (formally China Reconstructs) for more than 40 years, and have noticed the steady progress and improvement in the quality of your magazine. I regularly forward copies to my grandsons.

I hope that in future you will publish more articles on the history of specific Chinese dynasties, and on Chinese opinion on the Euro, and the lack of police control in French cities. It would be very helpful if I could buy copies of your magazine at news stands in my country.

More Articles on Tourism

I enjoy reading your magazine because it serves as a window on China and helps me to learn more about Muslims in your country.

I like articles about tourism the best, and find the exploration tours most interesting. I would like to read more about China's trade centers, agricultural markets, tourist products, large hotels, celebration of Chinese festivals, amusement centers, technological information and Chinese fashions. I am happy with the layout, contents and color quality of your magazine, and hope you might publish more photos of natural scenery.
