When you arrive China

When you first arrive in China, the first thing is to pass through Chinese customs. You have to fill some forms and be open your suitcase if you are asked. you will be met at the airport by your Chinese local guide who will stay with you in that area, and national guide sometime who will remain with you for the entire trip. The Chinese will welcome you with open arms, but at the same time they tend to be somewhat formal or ritualistic when meeting visitors for the first time.

Climate Information

China may be divided into five major climatic zones - tropical, subtropical, warm-temperature, temperate and frigid-temperate - which are much influenced by the monsoonal winds. Among these zones, the sub-tropical, warm-temperate and temperate zones occupy 70 percent of the country's territory. Every winter from Sept. and Oct. through March and Apr., frigid winds sweep down across China from Mongolia and Siberia. As a result, northern Chinese winters are dry and cold, and the winter-time variation between northern and southern China is quite large - more than 30 degrees Centigrade in the case of Harbin (the most northern city in China) and Guangzhou (the most southern). However, from Apr. to Sept., due to the influence of the warm wet monsoon winds which blow inland from the Pacific and Indian oceans, the temperature variation between north and south is 4 degrees Centigrade.

In China, annual precipitation decreases gradually from the southeast to the northwest. In the humid southeast, precipitation average 1,500 mm. annually, while in the arid northwest, the annual figure is 50 mm. Huoshaoliao in Taiwan has the heaviest precipitation in the country, with an average of 6,489 mm. per year, and once registered a record-breaking 8,408 mm. Ruoqiang and Qiemo counties in the southern Xinjiang Region are the most arid regions in the country, with an average annual precipitation of only 10 mm.

The distinct climatic features of each of China's regions can be roughly summarized as follows: the more northern the cooler and dryer, while the more southern the more warmer and more hominid.

In Spring (3-5), the northern part, including Beijing, Xi'an, is a comfortable season but somewhat windy, the southern at the same time, nice but of  frequent rains. In Summer (6-8), the northern part is dry and hot, heavy rains sometime but not so frequent, and the southern is hot, hominid and of more rains. The Autumn (9-11) is the best season for travelers, warm, full of sunshine, fewer rains. Winter (12-2) in north China is cold, but not so cold in the south. If possible, we do suggest you to come to China in Spring and Autumn, although hotels could be more expensive than other seasons. Winter is the best season in term of cost, and little influence to visit these historical relics.
