More Articles on Traditional Chinese Medicine

The first issue of 2002 shows some improvement over previous issues, particularly in layout and content.

I have been a subscriber to China Today for three years. I find it interesting and distinctive. But I still have recommendations.

1. Photographs: it is usually a photo of the president of a particular school, or the general manager of a company that appears at the head of an article, which is less interesting than photos that reflect the character of the actual school or company.

2. Content:

First, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a very important aspect of Chinese culture and also an extremely abstract and profound Chinese science. Nowadays more and more foreigners come to China to study types of TCM, such as acupuncture and moxibustion. As an ancient science passed down from our ancestors, TCM attracts numerous students from Japan, Korea, the U.S., Canada, and countries in Southern Asia, Africa, and Europe. However, as a magazine that plays an important role in introducing Chinese culture, China Today has yet to publish any articles on TCM. I believe many foreigners take an interest in TCM, but there are few channels of finding out how, who and where to take this interest any further.

Secondly, more articles about foreigners, or written by foreigners, may be appreciated. Articles where foreigners express their feelings and tell stories about their experiences in China would be of interest to large numbers of foreigners, as well as Chinese.

Thirdly, as regards domestic economy-related content, I find it dull reading so many articles about coal, steel and iron in each issue.

3. I also wonder whether it might be better if the CT-specials were split into several smaller articles.

Reader's Intimate Friend

China Today is an intimate friend of its readers. During the past 50 years, it has made great achievements in introducing China's development and changes in various fields to the outside world. It has also made great contributions to giving the people of the world a deeper understanding of China, as well as towards promoting friendship between the Chinese people and peoples of the world. I wish you greater achievements in the future and make the following suggestions:

First, I suggest you publish more articles on significant international, as well as domestic events, as this would help readers gain a better understanding of the Chinese government's position, standpoint and policies.

Secondly, I would suggest that every so often you open feature columns on sports, education, medical treatment and environmental protection.

Thirdly, some of the regular features, such as Simplified Shadowboxing, Bodybuilding Exercises, and Language Corner, could be edited into brochures. Readers particularly like these articles.

Interested in Articles on Chinese Sports

I enjoy reading articles about Chinese people's daily lives, sustained development in various fields in China, and also special reports on the situation of various provinces, such as that in Heilongjiang Province. I think the pictures of natural scenery are also very good.

I would appreciate your publishing more articles on Chinese sports, especially Chinese soccer, as I am keen on this game. I also think it would be a good idea to include photos of Chinese Soccer Clubs.

At present, your design is pretty good, but as regards pictures and colors, I suggest your magazine be printed in full color, as this would make its pictures clearer and brighter.

I also suggest you add a few other columns, and hope that you take heed of your readers' opinions and suggestions.
